The Taiwanese-born singer Jolin Tsai has sold over 25 million albums and in the process has become one of the highest paid celebrities in the Chinese-speaking world. Known for her ability to reinvent both her image and musical style she is one of the most influential celebrities in Chinese fashion and pop music.
Tsai was born in Hsinchuang, Taipei in 1980 and after graduating in English literature from university embarked on her musical career. She entered and won an MTV-sponsored talent show and within a year had embraced the teen idol culture and recorded her debut album titled '1019' (1999). Her ambitions to be a pop singer were quickly realised when the album was an instant hit amongst Taiwanese teenagers. She now has 14 successful albums to her credit with her 2003 release 'Magic' being widely acknowledged as her most successful album to date, both commercially and artistically.
Her success has enabled the singer to control her own career and to this end she runs her own management and record company called Eternal Music Production Co. Ltd. Tsai is also an accomplished author and has significant interests in the world of fashion.
