Erna Spoorenberg was born Huberdina Aletta Spoorenberg on April 11, 1926, in Yogyakarta, Java, Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), and was a Dutch soprano. She began studying singing as a child and made her debut in 1947 with Mozart's motet Exsultate, jubilate on Radio Hilversum. In 1949, Spoorenberg auditioned for Karl Böhm and joined the Vienna State Opera, performing roles such as Pamina in The Magic Flute. Returning to the Netherlands, she joined De Nederlandse Opera in 1955 and toured internationally. Notable recordings included The Art of Erna Spoorenberg in Opera and her role as Leila in Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles. After a car accident in the early 1970s, she focused on teaching at institutions like the Sweelinck Academy of Music in Amsterdam. Spoorenberg received a Harriet Cohen International Music Award and was appointed Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2002. She passed away on March 18, 2004, in Vught.
