This story begins in the summer of 2011, when two friends: Janis – musical mastermind, along with Normunds – who is the master of electric guitar, decides to make a band - The Sound Poets.
Their first song - Emily, rocketed the band in the spotlight, and it didn't took a lot to be announced by a local music-media experts (Radio101 - T.Grevins,TVnet.lv - J.Zilde, ) as probably the best Latvian pop-rock song of year 2012. But the following single "Kalniem pāri " attracted even more attention - continues weeks of 1st places on radio charts, invitation to open Latvian Music Awards ceremony and first invitations to festivals of 2012.
Sold-out their first ever own show was a remarkable way to end the 2011. Afterwards the band - Janis, Normunds, Undine (cello), Gints (bass), Peteris (drums) had a series of creative camps, to properly prepare for upcoming summer.
And it was as summer to be prepared - 8 festivals (Positivus, SummerSound, NewEra@Polva EE), 7 warm-up shows for Brainstorm, and their own show at open-air venue place Kalnciema Kvartāls. As stated by venue organizer M.Dambergs "Most attended and unforgettable show in 3 year history of making those concert series. The Sound Poets are FABULOUS!". And hi was not the only one who thought this way. After seeing The Sound Poets at Positivus - Bruno Roze, owner of the I Love You stage admitted "In 5 years of having a stage at Positivus, I have never seen such a fantastic performance! There were two times more people outside the tent than in it. And even there was a headline act on main-stage, even there was a Damien Rice playing on the other stage, none of them left! There is something special about them…"
The Sound Poets has been compared to many of the greats - Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Keane, but they have always managed to stand out in their own - emotionally intelligent pop rock way. Their performances can be characterized as an emotionally charged and powerful, maintaining a long lasting resonance with the audience even after the last note has been played.
