Alberto Portugheis, born on January 1, 1941 in La Plata, is an Argentine pianist born to parents of Romanian and Russian descent. He began playing piano at age three and studied with Vincenzo Scaramuzza before attending the Geneva Conservatoire. In June 1964, he won first prize at the Geneva Concours de Virtuosité, launching his international career. Portugheis has performed in nearly 50 countries, collaborating with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra. Notable albums include Sonatas for Cello & Piano (1971) and Johann Sebastian Bach/Dinu Lipatti (2015). He has also been involved in peace advocacy, sharing his family's experiences of World War II in his book Dear Ahed: the Game of War and a Path to Peace.
