Miguel Peña Vargas, known professionally as Miguel El Funi, was born in 1939 in Lebrija, Spain, and is a flamenco dancer and singer from a prominent gypsy family that includes notable figures such as Bastian Bacán, Pedro Bacán, Fernanda, and Bernarda de Utrera. In 1960, El Funi won the prize for Bulería at Jerez de la Frontera, marking his breakthrough in the flamenco world. Throughout his career, he collaborated with guitarists including his cousins Pedro Peña and Pedro Bacán, Paco Cepero, El Rubio, and Parrilla de Jerez. He performed extensively across Spain and internationally, appearing at venues such as La Caracolá Lebrijana, the Teatro Lope de Vega in Sevilla, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Montreal, New York, Sweden, and Israel.
