Zeraphine was formed in Berlin, Germany, in 2000 by vocalist and songwriter Sven Friedrich and guitarist Norman Selbig, both formerly of Dreadful Shadows. The duo met producer Thommy Hein after Dreadful Shadows split, and the trio initially recorded under the name Helix before adopting the name Zeraphine, derived from the Hebrew concept of seraphim. Their debut album Kalte Sonne (2002) was released through Drakkar Entertainment and featured exclusively German lyrics, a departure from their predecessor’s English output. In 2003, the band released the single "Be My Rain" and the album Traumaworld, which returned to English and addressed contemporary political themes. The 2005 album Blind Camera continued the bilingual approach and was described as a semi‑concept record exploring perception and reality. After parting with Drakkar in 2006, Zeraphine launched their own Phonyx Records imprint and issued Still (2006), a more live‑oriented release. The group maintained a touring presence through 2008, supporting acts such as HIM and headlining European festivals. In 2010, the band released Whiteout.
