The Dance Party, an American pop rock band from Washington, D.C., was formed in 2005 by vocalist Mick Coogan, guitarist Kevin Bayly, drummer Jeff David, and bassist Danny Hoag. They released their first EP, The Dance Party EP, shortly after formation, followed by the full-length album Friction! Friction! Friction! in July 2007. The band's lineup evolved over time, with Jon Jester and Rishi Chakrabarty joining after David and Hoag departed in early 2009. In 2009, they signed with HellYa! Records/Atlantic Records and released their major label debut album, Touch. The Dance Party embarked on national tours, including performances at SXSW 2010 and the Vans Warped Tour in 2011. Following the release of Tigers in November 2011, The Dance Party underwent a name change to Brett in 2014, marking a shift in sound.
