Biography

Pierce the Veil is an American rock band from San Diego, California. The group formed from the ashes of Before Today in 2006. Brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes had released one album with Before Today prior to the band's dissolution, and they reunited in Pierce the Veil, completing the band's lineup with guitarist Tony Perry and bass player Jaime Preciado. The band's early style owed much to emo and post hardcore bands such as Emarosa, Chiodos, and Alesana. Pierce the Veil's debut album was the 2007 release A Flair for the Dramatic, which was well-received by critics and went to Number 61 on the US Heatseeker Charts. The band's second album, Selfish Machines, marked a change in direction, blending melodic textures with some progressive rock influences. Pierce the Veil's breakthrough came in 2012 with the release of the group's third album, Collide With the Sky, which spawned the platinum-selling hit single "King for a Day" and charted at Number 12 on the Billboard 200. Misadventures followed in 2016, reaching Number 4 in America and Number 17 in the UK. Drummer Mike Fuentes left the band's lineup one year later, following accusations of sexual misconduct by a female fan. After a short hiatus, the band reassembled and began working on a new album, with Third Eye Blind's Brian Hargreaves serving as an interim drummer. The result was The Jaws of Life, which reached Number 1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart, Number 14 on the Billboard 200, and Number 2 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart upon its release in early 2023.
