Paul Dunmall, born on May 6, 1953, in Welling, Kent, England, is a British jazz musician known for his work as a saxophonist. His early career involved playing with progressive rock band Marsupilami for their second album, Arena, and touring with them until September 1971. Dunmall then became a member of the Divine Light Mission and toured the U.S. His first recording as a sideman was on Johnny Guitar Watson's 1976 album Ain't That a Bitch. Dunmall's solo career began in earnest with the release of his debut album, Soliloquy, in 1986. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he released numerous albums, including collaborations with notable musicians such as Keith Tippett, Barry Guy, and Elton Dean. Notable releases include Spiritual Empathy (1994), If Dubois Only Knew (1995), and Ghostly Thoughts (1997). Dunmall's discography spans over 100 albums, showcasing his versatility as a saxophonist across various genres within jazz.
