Philadelphia Grand Jury, an Australian trio from Sydney, was formed in 2008. The band consisted of Joel "MC Bad Genius" Beeson on bass, keyboard and guitar, Simon "Berkfinger" Berckelman on vocals and guitar, and "Handsome Dave" Jenkins Jr. on drums. Philadelphia Grand Jury released their debut album Hope Is for Hopers in 2009, which reached number 34 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The band signed a joint venture deal with Boomtown Records and won an award for "Best Independent Single or EP" at the fourth annual AIR Awards for their single "Going to the Casino (Tomorrow Night)". In October 2010, Philadelphia Grand Jury announced that drummer Calvin Welch had left the band. The band disbanded on November 2, 2011.
