Safet Isović was a Bosnian singer and prominent representative of sevdalinka music, born on October 20, 1936, in Bileća. At age five, he became a refugee during the Second World War, later moving to Sarajevo in 1955 to study law. After a successful audition for Radio Sarajevo, Isović released his first recordings on April 6, 1957. Throughout a career spanning fifty years, he recorded hundreds of traditional songs and reached international audiences, becoming the only singer from the former Yugoslavia to perform at the Sydney Opera House. His discography includes the 1972 album Safet and hit songs such as “Moj dilbere” and “Na mezaru majka plače”. In 1992, he was seriously injured by a grenade during the Bosnian War and temporarily lived in Germany and Croatia. Beyond music, Isović was a politician for the Party of Democratic Action. He died in Sarajevo on September 2, 2007, and was buried at the Ali Pasha's Mosque.
