Nana Kwame Abrokwa, or Nana for short, was born on October 5, 1968 in Accra, Ghana, and grew up in Hamburg from the age of ten. In the early 1990s, he began working as a DJ and rapper under the name MC Africa True. In 1994, he joined the Eurodance project Darkness, but soon left it again. His stage name Darkman dates from this time. In 1996, Nana released his first single "Darkman", which reached number 9 in the German charts. With the follow-up single "Lonely", he achieved a number 1 hit in Germany and Switzerland in 1997. The debut album Nana is released on May 19, 1997 and reaches number 4 in Germany, number 6 in Switzerland and number 22 in Austria. It is awarded gold in Germany and Switzerland. The second album Father followed in 1998, reaching number 4 in Germany, number 8 in Switzerland and number 17 in Austria. The singles "Too Much Heaven" and "Remember the Time" go gold in Germany. After a period of minor commercial success, Nana released the album All Doors in Flight No. 7 in 2004 via his own label Darkman Records. This is followed by the albums 12 Y.O. (2008) and Stand Up (2010). In 2017, the album #BetweenLuciferAndGod was released, containing new songs and remixes of his earlier hits. Nana receives several awards, including the Comet Award for Best National Newcomer in 1997 and two Echo Awards for Most Successful National Newcomer and Most Successful National Artist in 1998.
