The Kirby Stone Four, an American vocal ensemble popular in the 1950s and early 1960s, was founded by Kirby Stone after World War II. The group began performing in New York-area clubs before securing slots on local television shows like The Ed Sullivan Show. Their breakthrough came with a signing to Columbia Records, leading to several album releases including Baubles, Bangles and Beads (1958), which featured the hit single "Baubles, Bangles and Beads" reaching Number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning a Grammy nomination. The album itself peaked at Number 13 on the Billboard 200. Known for their unique style blending swing jazz, vocalese, and early rock and roll dubbed "The Go Sound," the group appeared on various television shows such as The Judy Garland Show and The Dean Martin Show. Their later albums included collaborations with notable musicians like Alvino Rey and Shelly Manne. In 1963, they released Wow! under Warner Bros. Records, marking a shift in their musical direction. The group's influence waned by the mid-1960s as their sound was overtaken by other artists like the Ray Conniff Orchestra and Singers. Kirby Stone Four recorded a rock & roll album with The Tokens as the United States Double Quartet in 1966, before disbanding. Some of their output has been re-released on CD by Collectables Records.
