Salvatore Baccaloni, born on April 14, 1900 in Rome, Italy, was an operatic bass known for his versatile performances. He began his musical journey as a member of the choir at the Sistine Chapel and later studied under Giuseppe Kaschmann. Baccaloni made his debut in 1922 at the Teatro Adriano in Rome as Don Bartolo in The Barber of Seville. His career flourished with notable roles such as Angelotti in Tosca and Sparafucile in Rigoletto, performed at the Teatro Costanzi. In 1940, Baccaloni moved to New York and joined the Metropolitan Opera, where he remained until his farewell concert in 1962. His repertoire included roles like Leporello in Don Giovanni and Don Pasquale. He also appeared frequently at the Philadelphia Opera from 1951 onwards. Baccaloni's acting skills extended to film roles in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He passed away on December 31, 1969, in New York.
