Gary Willis, born on March 28, 1957, in Longview, Texas, is an American bassist and composer known for his work in jazz and jazz fusion. He began playing the electric bass at age thirteen, inspired by his father's piano playing. Willis co-founded Tribal Tech with guitarist Scott Henderson in 1984. With Tribal Tech, he released several albums including Spears (1985) and Dr. Hee (1987). Throughout his career, Willis collaborated with notable artists such as Allan Holdsworth and Wayne Shorter, and authored educational books like Fingerboard Harmony for Bass (1997). In 2015, he released his solo album Larger Than Life (2015).
