Born in Oakland, California on October 30, 1947, Timothy B Schmit is a bass player and singer-songwriter best known as a member of the Eagles. He grew up in Sacramento, California and played in several bands including a folk duo and a surf band who scored several local hits. The band changed its name to Glad and moved towards a harmony-laden sunshine pop sound and released the album Feelin’ Glad in 1968. That same year, he auditioned for a new country rock band by the name of Poco. However, he did not make it into the band and Randy Meisner was asked to fill the bass and vocal position in Poco. Surprisingly, Meisner left the band in 1969, and they asked Timothy B. Schmit to replace him. He remained an important member of Poco until 1977, appearing on nine studio albums and two live albums. While a member of Poco, he also contributed backing vocals for artists like Steely Dan, Firefall, Andrew Gold, and Linda Ronstadt. Timothy B. Schmit left Poco in 1977, once again replacing Randy Meisner in a group. This time, the group was the Eagles, and they’d just come off of their massively successful album Hotel California. He played on the 1979 album The Long Run, co-writing and singing “I Can’t Tell You Why,” which became a number 8 hit on the Hot 100. Unfortunately, the Eagles split up in 1980 and Timothy B Schmit pursued a solo career as well as continuing to be a session musician and vocalist. Signed to Asylum Records, he released his debut solo album, Playin’ It Cool, in 1984. The album was not a massive success, and he left Asylum and signed with MCA Records, where released Timothy B (1987). The album included the Top 25 hit “Boys Night Out,” but the album failed, as did his 1990 album Tell Me the Truth. Surprisingly, the Eagles – including Timothy B. Schmit – reunited in 1994 and have continued to tour sporadically even after the death of founding member Glenn Frey. The group did release several albums including the live / studio release Hell Freezes Over (1994) and Long Road Out of Eden (2007). During his downtime with the Eagles, Timothy B. Schmit has continued to occasionally release solo albums including Feed the Fire (2001), Expando (2009), Leap of Faith (2016), and Day by Day (2022).
