Sounds Orchetral is a British orchestral group formed in 1964 by composer, arranger, producer and conductor John Schroeder and composer, pianist and conductor Johnny Pearson, also including studio musicians. Pye Records' response to competitor EMI's success with Sounds Incorporated, the band recorded a hit version of Vince Guaraldi's "Cast Your Fate to the Wind", which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Easy Listening chart, No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 in the UK in 1965. The popularity of the million-selling instrumental single led to the success of other titles such as "Moonglow" and "Canadian Sunset", and the albums Cast Your Fate to the Wind (1965), The Soul of Sounds Orchestral (1965), Impressions of James Bond (1966), Hits Orchestral (1966) and Sounds Latin (1967). Following other recordings in the same style, 20 Great T.V. Themes was released in 1977 on the K-Tel label. Now an arranger for the BBC and Top of the Pops, Johnny Pearson died on January 20, 2011 at the age of 85. John Schroeder died on January 31, 2017 at the age of 82.
