Martin Fondse, born February 20, 1967, in Bergen op Zoom, is a Dutch jazz pianist, arranger, and composer. Fondse studied with Bob Brookmeyer and Bill Dobbins before founding the ensemble De Achtbaan in 1992. Fondse performs on piano and vibrandoneon, a baroque version of the melodica. In 2008, Fondse formed the Martin Fondse Orchestra, originally named the Starvinsky Orkestar. His discography includes the albums Fragrant Moondrops (2009), Key Figures (2010), and Testimoni (2012), which received an Edison Award for Jazz National. Fondse composed scores for films including Vent (2004) and Fallin' Floyd (2013). Fondse received the Boy Edgar Prize in 2017 and collaborated with musicians such as Pat Metheny, Lenine, and Eric Vloeimans. Between 2021 and 2023, Fondse served as the Componist des Vaderlands (Composer Laureate) of the Netherlands.
