Microphone Mafia, originally known as TCA the Microphone Mafia, was a rap group formed in 1989 in Köln, Germany by four school friends. The group initially rapped in multiple languages, gaining attention at the We-are-Family-Jam in 1991. Their political awareness grew following the 1992 Rostock-Lichtenhagen riots, leading to involvement in anti-racism projects. In 1994, they released their first single "No!" and a year later, "Hand in Hand" under Sony Music. Their debut album Vendetta, released in 1996 via Day-Glo Records, faced limited radio play despite its multilingual content. The group continued with albums like Microphonia (1999) and Infernalia (2002), transitioning to German-only lyrics.
