The new album "Grigori" out now!
tense, dramatic..a brawny set of riffs that recall the likes of vintage Isis, as well as more recent acts like Glassing - Treble
After solidifying in early 2020, DRIFTER made an impromptu EP at historic Liberty Hall in 2022. The session was recorded live in a single take, engineered by Aaron Miller with vocal recording, mixing, and mastering done by Eric Graves (Roman Numerals, The Esoteric). The resulting songs comprise the mini-EP "Herald", which blends dark ambiance, primal noise and rhythmic thunder with crescendos of massive riffs and gnarled melodies.
Over the next few years, DRIFTER honed their art live, with such acts as Godflesh, Pallbearer, Glassing, John Garcia of Kyuss, and dozens more, including a show for the residents of the maximum security Lansing State Correctional Facility.
The band entered the studio again with Graves to create "Grigori" - an epic 9 song, 54-minute full length album that is akin to more of an audio journey than a record. "Grigori" guides you through cycles of beauty and decay, despair and joy, suffering and redemption. An unsettling path through an unkept garden.
"slowly-building and fiercely erupting post-metal in the immersive style of Neurosis. Dark, eerie, beautiful." - Too Much Rock
