The Kovenant, a Norwegian metal band, was founded in 1993 by Nagash and Blackheart. Initially known as Covenant, they released their debut album In Times Before the Light in 1997 under the label Mordgrimm. The following year, with the addition of notable musicians such as Hellhammer from Mayhem and Sarah Jezebel Deva from Therion, they released Nexus Polaris. This album was a significant breakthrough, selling over 15,000 copies in its first week and earning them a nomination for the Spellemannprisen award for Hard-Rock Album of the Year. Due to legal issues with another band named Covenant, The Kovenant changed their name in 1999. Their subsequent albums included Animatronic (1999) and SETI (2003), which showcased a blend of atmospheric black metal and electronic elements. The band's activities became sporadic after 2004, but they reunited for live performances in 2010 and 2024.
