New LP Juggling Dualities is out on July 17
The inventive, boundary-blurring depth of lauded French producer rRoxymore’s artistry continues on her third longplayer, Juggling Dualities. Primarily conceived as a new age project, she also assimilates Detroit techno, kosmische and dub, with an elegant, musically literate verve.
Having been unable to create following a complicated personal time, which left her emotionally uprooted, lacking inspiration and feeling creatively stuck, the album is the sound of writer’s block shaken off in fine fashion.
The solution was space and distance – taking time to disconnect from the struggle, to let the muse take her only once ready; freed from pressure, from the noise of life, and from the incessant, desperate thrum of social media.
This approach brought a different rhythm to her days, and a fresh perspective, which allowed exploration without expectations. A surge of intense creativity followed, in which the majority of the record was written; and you can clearly hear the revelation, in every rejuvenating fresh breath of sound.
Beatific ‘Opener ‘Am I Human?’ is a slow-mo ascent on shimmering synths and celestial arps, and ‘Upward Spiral’ combines peak new age with a trippy air of the uncanny.
A future anthem for discerning dancefloors, ‘Moodified’ pairs bass wistful sundowner synths with ‘Rico’s Helly’ double bass, whilst the quizzical ‘Embracing The Unknown’ takes you somewhere synthetic, but balmy, and pleasant.
The gently percussive ambient techno of ‘Nectar’ has an effervescent, hopeful energy, while ‘Bonded For Eternity’ journeys further into pastel-hued, vaporous landscapes.
The sci-fi beauty of ‘Solace’ pairs feathery jazz drums with a dappled shower of scale-hopping bleeps, before the album closes on a quiet yet majestic note, with the composedly, healing piano of ‘Lows And Attractions’.
Both as rRoxymore’s creative journey, and as a finished listening experience, Juggling Dualities is a prime case for the benefits of taking a moment, a breath, and re-centring.
