The Light Crust Doughboys, an American Western swing band from Texas, were organized in 1931 by the Burrus Mill and Elevator Company in Saginaw. The group’s formation was initiated by W. Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel to promote Light Crust Flour through radio advertising. Their early broadcasts on KFJZ-AM in Fort Worth included songs such as “Twenty-One Years” and “Chicken Reel.” In 1933, the band embarked on a goodwill tour for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. The original group disbanded in 1942 during World War II and later reformed in the 1960s under Marvin Montgomery’s leadership. A contemporary incarnation began in the 1990s. The group was inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 1989.
