British composer and producer David Lowe works for the BBC. Born in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, England, he began working as a radio technician for the local BBC, before establishing himself as a freelance composer. With no formal training in music, he created jingles, theme tunes and sound patterns from his Pebble Mill studio, penning numerous themes for the BBC until 1981, when he took up a full-time position as sound engineer for Magpie Film Productions. Surrounded by his synthesizers, he formed the band Cool Fish with Samantha Meah, and in 1997 produced a successful album under the name Dreamcatcher. Since 1999, Lowe has been creating theme music for the BBC, in particular jingles for its news service, collected in 2025 in the album BBC News: Official Themes. The composer also creates music for advertising and cinema, such as his soundtrack for the 2007 film Wild Caribbean.
