Lajos Lencsés is a Hungarian oboist. He began his musical studies at the Béla Bartók Conservatory and the Budapest Academy of Music, and continued his training at the Paris Conservatoire under Étienne Baudo, also attending the Nice International Summer Academy with Pierre Pierlot. In 1968, he was a prizewinner at the Geneva International Music Competition, and in 1971 he was appointed principal oboe of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, which launched his solo career. He has performed as a concert and chamber musician with conductors such as Sergiu Celibidache, Karl Münchinger, Sir Neville Marriner, Christoph Eschenbach, and Jean-Pierre Rampal, and has taught masterclasses internationally across Europe, the United States, and Japan. His discography features major oboe works by Richard Strauss, Francis Poulenc, Benjamin Britten, Domenico Cimarosa, and Antonio Pasculli, and others. His recordings have received awards such as the Diapason d’Or in 1990 and he was awarded the Order of Merit by the Hungarian government in 2003.
