BulletBoys were formed in Los Angeles in 1987 by Marq Torien (vocals), Mick Sweda (guitar), Lonnie Vencent (bass), and Jimmy D’Anda (drums), with roots in the local hard-rock circuit and a fast jump to a Warner Bros. deal. Their debut, BulletBoys (1988), was produced by Ted Templeman and broke through with the slick-but-rowdy singles "Smooth Up in Ya" and their cover of "For the Love of Money," helping the album earn a U.S. gold certification. They followed with Freakshow (1991), again produced by Templeman, leaning harder into bluesy bite on cuts like the Tom Waits cover "Hang On St. Christopher" and the J.B. Lenoir cover "Talk to Your Daughter," one of the band’s signature tracks from that era. After Za-Za (1993), the group splintered into frequent lineup shifts, with Torien remaining the constant as the name carried on through Acid Monkey (1995), the career-spanning set Burning Cats and Amputees (2000), and Sophie (2003). Later releases included the live set Behind the Orange Curtain (2007), 10¢ Billionaire (2009), the covers-heavy Rocked and Ripped (2011), Elefante (2015), and From Out of the Skies (2018), which featured guest vocals from Jesse Hughes on "D-Evil." In the 2020s, the band resurfaced with new recordings including the standalone single "Holy F*ck" (2022) and the later single release "Smooth Up" (2024), alongside another round of lineup reshuffles and reunion activity involving classic members.
