Date of birth: 12 May 2002
Origins: Icelandic and Spanish
Aïleen, whose real name is Aïleen Kristjánsdóttir, is a Franco-Icelandic singer-songwriter, born of an Icelandic father and a Spanish mother.
From an early age, Aïleen was marked by a tumultuous family life. Her father, a discreet musician from Reykjavik, died when she was just six years old. This tragedy left an indelible mark on her life, forging an artistic sensibility that shines through in her music today.
Her mother, Carmen, from Valencia, was unable to make up for her father's absence. Busy with her own personal quest, she left Aïleen to grow up almost on her own. This solitude nurtured a rich, introspective inner world, prompting her to take refuge in writing and music from adolescence onwards. She learnt to play the piano and took up the guitar.
After several years spent composing in the shadows, in her modest bedroom in Brussels and then in Paris, she emerged in 2024 with her first album, À la vie, à la Mort.
This intimate opus explores universal themes such as death, loss, abandonment, love and resilience. Each track is imbued with raw emotion, blending piano or guitar with folk sounds and Nordic or Mediterranean influences, an echo of her plural origins.
Critics are already hailing the depth of her lyrics and the purity of her voice, often compared to those of emblematic figures on the alternative scene.
Aïleen doesn't just tell her story; she invites everyone to delve into their own scars, to look at life as it is, offering music that heals as much as it moves.
