Subtle was an alternative hip hop sextet from Oakland, California, formed in 2001 by Adam Drucker, Jeffrey Logan, Dax Pierson, Jordan Dalrymple, Alexander Kort, and Marty Dowers. Their first releases were the 'four seasons' EPs (Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring) from 2001 to 2003, followed by the compilation album Earthsick. In 2004, Subtle signed to Lex Records and released their debut full-length album A New White. A tour van accident in 2005 left Pierson quadriplegic. Despite this, they released For Hero: For Fool in 2006, which was critically acclaimed. The band also released the EP Yell & Ice EP, a collection of remakes and remixes, in October 2007.
