Michael Schiefel is a German jazz singer born on April 15, 1970, in Münster. During his studies at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, he utilized loop devices and electronic elements in his music. He released his debut solo studio album, Invisible Loop, in 1997. Schiefel performed with the quintet jazzIndeed, which released the recording Ostkreuz in 2011. He collaborated with musicians including Carla Bley and David Friedman. In 2013, he received an Echo Jazz award for his contribution to the Thärichens Tentett album An Berliner Kinder. Schiefel served as a professor for improvised singing at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar from 2001 to 2025. In 2024, he was appointed professor of jazz singing at the Jazz-Institut Berlin. His discography also featured the studio recordings I Don't Belong (2000) and My Home Is My Tent (2010).
