We Five was an American folk rock group formed in 1964 in San Francisco, California. The original quintet included Michael Stewart (vocals, banjo, guitar), Beverly Bivens (lead vocals, guitar), Jerry Burgan (vocals, guitar), Pete Fullerton (vocals, bass), and Bob Jones (vocals, guitar). We Five began as a quartet with Stewart, who was the brother of John Stewart from The Kingston Trio, arranging their music which ranged from adult rock 'n roll to Broadway show tunes. Their breakthrough came in 1965 when they released "You Were on My Mind", a remake of Ian & Sylvia's song that reached Number 1 on the Cashbox chart and Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, selling over one million copies. The group signed with A&M Records and released their debut album You Were on My Mind in 1965. Their second single "Let's Get Together" reached Number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 5 in Canadian charts. In February 1966, We Five was nominated for a Grammy for Best Performance By A Vocal Group but lost to the Anita Kerr Quartet. After completing their second album Make Someone Happy in 1967, lead singer Beverly Bivens left the group and was replaced by Debbie Graf Burgan. The band continued with two more albums: The Return of We Five (1969) and Catch the Wind (1970). In 1970, Stewart, Jones, and Fullerton quit, effectively disbanding the original lineup. In 1977 was released a new album titled To Each Day as It Comes. Various iterations of the group continued until 1981, with Debbie Graf and Jerry Burgan performing as "The Burgans." Michael Stewart died on November 13, 2002 at age 57. Jerry Burgan died on March 29, 2021 at age 76 and Peter Fullerton died on September 28, 2021 at age 75.
