Robert Ffrench is a Jamaican reggae singer and record producer born on 1962 in Kingston. He attended Kingston College and recorded his first singles in 1979. Ffrench achieved success in 1984 following performances at the Festival Song Contest and the Reggae Sunsplash festival. In 1985, he released his first two albums, The Favourite and Wondering, and recorded the hit “Bun & Cheese” with Clement Irie. He later collaborated with Courtney Melody on the 1989 track “Modern Girl”. In the mid-1990s, Ffrench relocated to New York City and collaborated with rapper Heavy D on the song “More Love” and the album Robert Ffrench, Heavy D and Friends (1995). After returning to Jamaica, he established the Ffrench record label and the Sing Jock label with Horace Davis. As a producer, he worked with performers including Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, and Sizzla, and produced Buju Banton’s debut single “The Ruler”. His later work included the 2001 album Yesterday and Today and the 2009 single “I Do”.
