SUTCLIFFE
If Sutcliffe were a film, then one would certainly try to classify it under the genre of arthouse films. Whereby sequences of a blockbuster shimmer through again and again.
Sutcliffe's music creates moods, creates images in the minds of the listeners and never forgets to entertain.
Spherical soundscapes alternate with 60ties guitar soulful bass and rhythmic sequences. Soundsamples garnish the sound cosmos. Sometimes an accordion melody, sometimes a lapsteel guitar leads the band through their universe.
The listener's head is occupied with his illusions, his body demands movement. Sutcliffe's music is distinct, so off the mainstream, yet so engaging.
With their 5th release, "Marie-Byrd-Land" (Spring 2023, Steeplejack Records), Sutcliffe also treads the field between Americana and avant-garde, creating the soundtrack for a head cinema that Quentin Tarantino might have directed along with Kaurismäki and Jim Jarmusch after a night out.
