Isaura Garcia, known as “Personalíssima”, was a Brazilian singer born on February 26, 1923, in São Paulo. She began her career as a teenager, winning first prize on the radio program Qua-qua-qua-quarenta in 1938 with the song “Camisa listrada”. Recognized as one of the most significant interpreters of Brazilian Popular Music, her five-decade career encompassed samba, jazz, and bossa nova. Garcia recorded over three hundred songs, including her signature hit “Mensagem”. Her discography includes the 1969 album Ary Barroso e Billy Blanco na voz de Isaurinha Garcia and 1970’s Chico Buarque de Hollanda e Noel Rosa na voz de Isaura Garcia. She was married to the organist Walter Wanderley, with whom she had a turbulent personal and professional relationship. In 1963, she was named Best Singer at the Troféu Roquette Pinto. Garcia died on August 30, 1993, in São Paulo. She was posthumously awarded the Ordem do Mérito Cultural in 2016.
