Love y'all and there ain't nothing you can do about it!
Ole Skeet's (Jeff Powell) family moved around a lot when he was coming up. Raised in the 1970's, parents chasing jobs and battling unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, and the uncertainty that comes with all of that helped shape Ole Skeet's worldview and his style of music. Both urban and rural living influenced Ole Skeet's musical tastes. ACDC, CDB, NWA, P Funk, and both ZZ Top and ZZ Hill are but a few of Ole Skeet's diverse influences.
In 1984 Ole Skeet (Dr Skeet at the time) joined a group called The Master Control Force which was a rap group under contract with Big Bad Wolf Records whose owners were James "Super" Wolfe who was a radio station owner and former Sugar Hill Records recording artist and his wife Denise LaSalle the "Queen of the Blues." Other members of MCF were MC Pete - Sweet Pete of Soul now known as Radio Rasheed, Dj Trick now known as Pa Pa Fresh, Def D, and MMS now known as Bobby Doe. The group performed in the area and region doing shows and small venues. This was also the first time Skeet was in the studio. MCF eventually broke up and reformed several times over the years. Skeet was fired for asking the wrong questions. lol
A couple years later (1989) Skeet reconnected with his good friend Dj Trick and they started Dog House. One piece at a time. First a 4-track recording studio, then a 16-track studio, then two 16 track studios with a storefront in Humboldt Tn. This led to Dog House Productions, and then Dog House Records. Dog House released several EPs and Singles most of which were on 12" vinyl. Old school promotion, letters, phone calls, in person meetings etc. lots of dues were paid during this period.
In the mid 1990s Trick partnered with Lil Mac and got a record deal out of New York, Perfect Combination (an RnB group) got a deal in Chicago, the studio had leaks so everyone took their toys and went home. Skeet moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast were he briefly restarted his music career only to shelve it for educational pursuits.
Skeet worked as a graphic designer and multimedia professional for several years and even dabbled in politics until 2021 after battling his own cancer and then losing his wife of 33 years. Alone with his dog and Cadillac he began working on his new album. In November 2023 he released a single "Story of My People" which was his first release in over 30 years.
Ole Skeet is now with an Indi label American Chicken Farm Revival Records and has released several singles. Ole Skeet writes music and travels the Country with his siblings. As a songwriter/creator he writes Country Funk and Hillbilly Hip-Hop and has enjoyed making experimental music since the 80's.
