The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, an English rock band formed in 1967, was led by vocalist Arthur Brown. The original lineup included Vincent Crane on Hammond organ and piano, Drachen Theaker on drums, and Nick Greenwood on bass. The band's breakthrough came with the release of "Fire" in 1968, which topped the UK Singles Chart and reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. This success was followed by their self-titled debut album, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, which peaked at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. The band's unique stage persona, featuring extreme face paint and a burning helmet, became iconic. Despite this initial success, their second studio album, Strangelands, was shelved in 1969 due to perceived lack of sales potential and was not released until 1988. The band disbanded in 1970, with members going on to form other notable groups such as Atomic Rooster and Kingdom Come. Arthur Brown later joined projects like The Alan Parsons Project and Hawkwind. The Crazy World of Arthur Brown reformed in 2000 releasing several albums, including Tantric Lover (2000), Vampire Suite (2003), and Zim Zam Zim (2013). Their influence on the shock rock genre is significant, with artists such as Kiss, Alice Cooper, and Marilyn Manson citing them as inspirations.
