Axel Bauer is a French singer, songwriter, and guitarist, widely recognized as one of the most iconic and virtuosic guitarists of his generation. He rose to fame in 1984 with the groundbreaking hit "Cargo," a track that sold over a million copies and became a milestone in French rock history. The song’s striking music video, directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, was the first ever French music video aired on tv and helped launch MTV Europe and became a visual reference of the era.
Born into a family of artists, Axel’s musical path was shaped early on through classic music and jazz and encounters with pioneers like Rita Mitsouko, Taxi Girl, Jacno, and by studying contemporary music under the avant-garde composer Iannis Xenakis. His guitar style blends raw energy with refined musicality, earning him a place among France’s most respected rock musicians.
His discography includes several gold-certified albums, such as "Sentinelles" (1990), featuring the anthemic "Éteins la lumière," and "Personne n’est parfait" (2002), propelled by the chart-topping duet with Zazie, "À ma place." He’s also performed over 800 concerts and shared the stage with icons like Johnny Hallyday, Larry Carlton, and Robben Ford.
In 2022, Axel released "Radio Londres," a critically acclaimed album paying tribute to resistance in all its forms—and to his father Franck Bauer, the last speaker of Radio Londres. The record was followed by a triumphant tour that culminated at the Olympia.
In 2025, Axel returns with fire: "Merde à la Mer," a fierce, poetic, and irreverent duet with legendary Brigitte Fontaine. This punk-rock anthem is the first explosive glimpse of his new album, slated for release in January 2026.
