Quimby, a Hungarian band, started playing covers before transitioning to original material. Their first release, Up Side Down, a cassette featuring English-language tunes such as "Sea" and "Stink", was released in 1992. The band's breakthrough came with Diligramm in December 1997, which was chosen as album of the year by the Hungarian press in the spring of 1998. Subsequent albums included Ékszerelmére, released in 1999, and Káosz Amigos in 2002. Quimby performed at notable festivals such as the Sziget Festival and went on tours both domestically and internationally. The band took a hiatus from 2002 to 2004 but returned with full-house concerts and festival appearances.
