Vasari Singers are an English classical chamber choir from London, formed in 1981 by Jeremy Backhouse. The ensemble performs choral music from the Renaissance to the contemporary era. In 2000, the group began a commissioning program that resulted in more than 20 works from British composers. To mark their 25th anniversary in 2005, the choir commissioned ten works and released the album Anthems for the 21st Century. The choir performed at the BBC Proms and appears on BBC Radio 3. In November 2008, the ensemble commissioned and premiered the piece “Requiem” by Gabriel Jackson, which Backhouse later recorded with the group. Vasari Singers have released five albums through Naxos Records, two of which reached the top ten on the Specialist Classical Charts. The choir performs in London venues and English cathedrals including Canterbury and Gloucester.
