HISTORY:
At the end of 1999 in the city of Cáceres - Spain, when we were playing what is usually called "music for tourists" in our Old Town, we decided to join forces and create a music group, thus beginning our journey as Los Niños de Los Ojos Rojos.
Officially, we started our concerts in 2000, playing Irish music and fusing it with funk and blues. Take a look at our beginnings.
We have always opted for the path of self-management, undoubtedly more difficult and complicated, but it allows us to have total freedom to develop artistically.
In 2001, we self-published our first Los Niños de los Ojos Rojos album "Venga Enseguía," of which we sold the 2,000 copies we printed.
Between 2002-2003, new members joined Los Niños de Los Ojos Rojos, and we began to include Balkan rhythms, hip-hop, rock, or ska in our new songs, thus achieving a unique and unparalleled sound, which we call Hard Folk.
In 2004, we co-starred in the documentary by Montxo Armendáriz and Luis Pastor "Escenario Móvil". We also collaborated on its soundtrack, participating in a memorable performance in 2007 within the San Sebastián International Film Festival on the promenade of La Concha Beach.
After two years in the recording studio, we released our second album, "Hijos del humo". To date, we have sold more than 15,000 units and have the collaboration of Celtas Cortos vocalist Jesús Cifuentes and Diego Antúnez, a recognized Extremaduran flutist.
Los Niños de los Ojos Rojos are tireless. We have performed almost a thousand concerts since we started, being part of the lineups of the most important and crowded festivals in Spain such as Viñarock, WOMAD, filling all spaces in different editions, Extremúsika in Mérida, or Esperanzah Festival. On the international level, we have performed in Mexico within the Ollin kan Festival or Belgrad beer Fest in Belgrade, before more than 200,000 people in 2009.
In the international arena, Portugal is a must-visit for us as we feel it as a brother country, we go there as our second home. We have participated in concerts and festivals throughout its geography, highlighting performances within the Arredas Folk Festival or impressive concerts at the National Theater in the "Praça do Rossio" in Lisbon.
From 2008 to 2010, we visited Bosnia and Herzegovina within the Tuzla wave Festival. We can highlight the Belgrad Beer Fest in 2009. But it was not until March 2010 that we consolidated ourselves in these countries. We carried out our first tour of eight concerts in venues with full capacity in Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, etc... With a spectacular promotion campaign, being the only Spanish band to achieve this acceptance from the Balkan audience.
In 2010, we released our third album "Lo veo todo claro", in which we continued our commitment to independent and avant-garde music based on traditional European folk from Ireland, Extremadura, Greece, or the Balkans, fused with more modern rhythms such as hip hop, disco, reggae, ska, or funky. We call this genre of music "Hard Folk". We had some luxury collaborations, including Jorge Pardo (Paco de Lucía, Camarón, etc...).
In May of that same year, we traveled to Mexico for a tour with five other performances where we achieved a significant impact, even performing on national TV shows such as "Animal Nocturno" with an estimated audience of three million people or at events such as the "Festival por las culturas en resistencia Ollín kan" in Mexico City or the "Festival Barroquísimo" held in the city of Puebla - Mexico.
We have appeared on television in many programs. In Spain, we could mention our appearances in the "conciertos de Radio 3", in "La 2 de TVE" and in one of the episodes of "Vidas Anónimas" on La Sexta TV, "La Sala Eléctrica" on Canal Extremadura, or brief appearances on "Lo + Plus" or "El Hormiguero". As mentioned before, we participated in TV Azteca in Mexico on their show "Animal Nocturno". You can see the video and our live performance on the show above. We have also appeared on television in Belgrade (Serbia): Vip Music Club, and in Zagreb (Croatia): transmeet.tv.
In 2012, we led a tour through Castilla-León and Portugal, championing new Folk trends from Extremadura. We could highlight the concert in Segovia under the incredible Aqueduct of Segovia, the Folk Festival in Plasencia, or at the Auditorium of Merida.
In 2015-2016, we embarked on our 15th-anniversary tour, and after hundreds of concerts in these 15 years, Los Niños de los Ojos Rojos have carved out a space for ourselves, earning the respect of the audience and promoters.
So much so that in 2016, we had the immense honor of playing the Extremadura Anthem on Extremadura Day (in the style of Los Niños de los Ojos Rojos, of course) at the Roman Theater in Merida.
At the end of 2017, we released our fourth album "Regreso a la Comarca".
We had the great pleasure of participating once again in the Ollin Kan Festival in Mexico City, as well as in Gijón and Lisbon.
You know that coming to see us in concert is enjoying a spectacular show, a musical journey through diverse cultures in which you won't be able to stop dancing and laughing!!!
Currently, we are on tour with "Regreso a la Comarca", bringing it to every corner of Spain. Portugal also wants to be part of it and has asked us to participate in the "Festivalterra Transmontana" in Mogadouro.
We had the immense pleasure of participating in the Extremúsica 2018 edition held in Cáceres, sharing the stage with none other than Prodigy.
