Alfons Bauer, born on May 13, 1920, in München-Freundorf, Germany, was a German composer and zither player. He began playing the zither at age eight and recorded his first album at fifteen. After completing school, he initially trained as a hatmaker before studying piano and composition at the Munich Conservatory. Bauer's career took off with over one million zither records sold by the 1950s. He founded his own record label and composed over 200 titles. Notable collaborations include works with Akkordeonvirtuosen Georg Schwenk, the orchestra of James Last, and the Berliner Rundfunkorchester. Bauer received numerous awards, including the Hermann-Löns-Medaille in 1975. He passed away on February 3, 1997.
