Tristania, a Norwegian doom metal and gothic metal band, was formed in Stavanger in 1996 by Morten Veland, Einar Moen, and Kenneth Olsson. The group initially gained traction with their self-titled EP Tristania, released in 1997 under Napalm Records. Their debut album, Widow's Weeds, followed in 1998, featuring a blend of gothic metal, death metal, black metal, and doom metal elements. The band's second album, Beyond the Veil (1999), showcased more extreme sounds compared to its predecessor. In 2000, Veland left Tristania to form Sirenia, marking a significant shift in the band's dynamics. Despite this change, Tristania continued releasing albums such as Ashes (2005), Illumination (2007), and Rubicon (2010). Their final album, Darkest White, was released in 2013. The band disbanded in 2022 after a 26-year career.
