rue tiay is an emerging psychedelic/indie pop artist living on Gadigal land (referred to as Sydney, Australia). Hailing from Iraq, rue tiay’s family fled war when she was a child, and her introduction to songwriting was a cathartic release from ‘survivor's guilt.' Much of her earliest music was written to make sense of the overseas family phone calls and the 6 o’clock news.
Fast forward two decades, her songs stem from relationships, first and foremost your relationship with yourself, your family, and others you meet during your brief time on earth. Drawing inspiration from Augie March, The Beatles, and Lana Del Rey, her mission is to help individuals connect through grasping that loneliness is a natural part of the human condition.
“We all feel lonely throughout our lives. I feel it a lot. I want my music to be a safe space where we can acknowledge that loneliness together - then get on with our day” - rue tiay
rue tiay has spent most her life hiding behind her guitar, other than a brief hiatus where she trained as a scientist, then doctor in her early 20’s, before retreating to music full time in 2023.
She records and releases independently through Church Street Studios in Sydney. Follow rue tiay on Instagram to follow studio BTS and photos of her dog Thomas Edison.
