A British jazz, funk and R&B band from Manchester, 52nd Street was founded in 1980 by guitarist Tony Henry. Several changes took place during the course of the group's career, including the successive replacement of singers Jennifer McCloud and Beverley McDonald, before the arrival of Diane Charlemagne in 1984. After a few Billboard Dance singles in the U.S. and the arrival of a new bassist, Tony Bowry, the first Children of the Night album (1985) was released, with three hits, "Tell Me (How It Feels)", "You're My Last Chance" and "I Can't Let You Go". Two years later, Something's Going On followed, with an American hit ("I'll Return") and a British one ("Say You Will"). Affected by member turnover and management and distribution problems between the two continents, 52nd Street eventually disbanded, before being reborn in 1990 as Cool Down Zone, with Diane Charlemagne and Tony Bowry.
