Hanne Leland is an Oslo-based Norwegian independent artist and songwriter who has made a name for herself far beyond Norway’s borders. From starting as a singer-songwriter in Nashville to becoming a confident pop artist with over 17 million streams on Spotify, she has built her career from the ground up—entirely on her own terms.
With an impressive work ethic and an entrepreneurial mindset in her music career, she took control of her own path early on. She created presentations for her artist project and visited companies to secure sponsorship deals. The funding from these sponsors allowed her to travel to Nashville the following year. There, she recorded her debut album Honest with top musicians, including members of Taylor Swift’s studio band and Reba McEntire’s producer, whom she hired independently
After Honest, Hanne took a new musical direction, moving away from country music in favor of pop. The transition happened naturally through collaborations with Swedish songwriters and producers, resulting in a series of strong singles, including Into U and Fearless (We Want Who We Want). The latter was created in collaboration with handball player Anja Hammerseng-Edin as a statement of support for LGBTQ+ rights. Hanne has also been a vocal advocate against discrimination, including in an interview with SheBOPS magazine, where she challenged outdated views on queer love in Southern Norway’s “bible belt”, where she grew up.
Hanne’s ability to create catchy yet deep and personal songs has given her opportunities to tour with major artists. She was handpicked as a special guest on the comeback tour of the legendary British girl group All Saints, performing 10 sold-out shows in England and Scotland. Additionally, she toured the UK with Gavin James. Singles like Hungover You, You Don’t Own Me, and Carry On have gained recognition in international media outlets such as CLASH, The Line of Best Fit, and Galore, while Stay went viral on YouTube with several million views.
