Ajattara, a Finnish black metal band from Helsinki, was formed in 1996 initially as a solo project by Pasi Koskinen of Amorphis. Their initial release was the demo tape Helvetissä on syntisen taivas in 1998. The band released their debut album Itse in 2001, followed by Kuolema in 2003 and Tyhjyys in 2004. Ajattara continued with albums like Äpäre (2006) and Kalmanto (2007), as well as Christmas singles "Ilon juhla" (2004) and "Joulu" (2005). In 2009, they released the all-acoustic album Noitumaa. The band disbanded in April 2012 but reunited in 2016. In 2017, the band released Lupaus.
