Since the age of nine, SEMAJ has been involved in music. During his school years in South London, he trained as a classical musician, playing the clarinet for the Croydon Schools Symphonic Band. At 16, he made the transition to gospel music and performed in church choirs before forming his own live band. Then in 2012, he co-founded the electronic/soul duo Sallok and James. They released their EP 'Beautiful' via NexGen Music and performed at many live events across London. In 2017 he joined the Motown/Soul tribute band Imperial Grooves as lead vocalist, singing at various corporate functions across the UK.
Through his experience of the benefits of music for mental health, SEMAJ DEE also works with children through a leading UK charity. He uses music to aid the children and young people’s social and emotional learning, as it is well documented that music (especially classical music) helps to regulate emotions and aids focus and concentration. Mental health and wellbeing is a cause especially dear to his heart, and being able to combine this work with his music is a dream come true for this talented artist.
