Samu Neves' roots are planted firmly in samba; the records of Antônio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto, Baden Powell, and other samba musicians made an enormous impact upon him in the youth. But he also claim that composers like Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Chet Baker had a decisive influence upon his harmonies, and the brazilian popular music gave his music a uniquely exotic rhythmic underpinning. As a guitarist, he keeps things melodically smooth by strumming the syncopated rhythms and singing in a modest, husky, and often emotional way.
Born in Manaus, Samu Neves originally was headed for a career as a lawyer. Yet by the time he turned 24, the lure of music was too powerfull, so he started playing guitar in nightclubs and studying Classical Guitar at Nuremberg University of Music. He recorded his first singles Niél, Encandeiará, Ledo Engano and À Flor da Pele in 2022.
