Improviser, composer and explorer of musical genres
Manuel Hermia is an improviser, composer and music explorer. With a classical grounding in his youth, university training in jazz, followed by 30 years of practice in other types of music (India, the Arab world, Africa, Latin America...), he has developed a universal way of looking at music, and launched numerous projects in which he plays with stylistic barriers: between jazz, classical music, contemporary music, rock, and world music.
Similarly, he sees composition and improvisation as complementary and equal disciplines. He teaches jazz at the Brussels Conservatory, as well as an improvisation seminar for Master's students in the classical section.
