Following her 2018 single, "Flip ‘Em," Vanessa Ortiz realized her part-time passion deserved a full-time commitment. In the last year, Ortiz —better known as Ness Heads—has established herself as an artist to keep tabs on. The decision to leave her 9-5 proved to be a no brainer for the Chicago rapper/singer/songwriter as it allowed her more time to explore and further experiment with her music.
Like her stage presence, her style has been described by DJ Booth as “... sometimes, it’s almost as if she’s singing and rapping at the same time, inhabiting space between the two”. The singles Ness has pushed in 2019 have gained the attention of the press. NPR named her one of Chicago Hip-Hop And R&B Artists To Watch In 2019 while Soundcloud featured her as part of the First On Soundcloud campaign alongside Flipp Dinero and Billie Eilish.
Ness looks to continue the momentum she’s established in 2019 with a debut EP, "Numb", set to release before the end of the year. Taking pride in a disciplined work ethic, she understands that evolving as a creative takes an eye on the prize mentality. It isn’t solely the hours Ness puts in the studio or the rigorous writing exercises she practices that set her apart. Rather, it’s the “vibe” she sets - one that can be credited to the environments in which she grew up in, her go-getter mentality, and the self-assured confidence in which she continues to carry herself with.
