Jean-Louis Garnick Philippe Costes, born on May 13, 1954, in Paris, France, is a French singer, actor, and writer. He grew up in Croissy-sur-Seine, where he learned to play the piano. While studying architecture, Costes played in various amateur rock groups and traveled through Africa, South America, and Asia. His musical career began in the early 1980s with the release of albums like Secouez… Crevez !. Over the following decades, Costes released dozens of albums, including notable works such as Rape GG (1988) and The End of the Trail (1991). His performances are characterized by provocative themes and aggressive sounds, often incorporating elements of satire, scatology, and pornography. Costes’ stage presence is equally controversial, featuring nudity, simulated excrement, and incoherent shouting. In addition to his music, he has directed several films and published books. He has collaborated with various artists, including the trio Costes and the Krishees in 2008. His prolific output and unconventional style have made him a cult figure in the French underground music scene.
